Middle School Students
According to Kellough and Kellough, middle school students need teachers who are committed to them (2011). Every student has the capability to learn and thrive with the right teaching environment and differentiated instruction. I desire to have a positive, trusting, and respectful relationship with all of my students, their parents/guardians, and my fellow school teachers and administration. According to the Hazelden Foundation, middle school students come to us with feelings of fear and excitement because they are coming to us from elementary school and do not know what to expect in the transition to middle school (2003). We give students more independence at the middle school level, but we also guide them along the way. Middle school students also begin to feel an increased amount of pressure from their peers and stress from more school work. Emotional and physical changes occur with this age group as well. The development of social skills is important to a successful middle school experience. As an educator, I want my students to feel comfortable coming to me with any issues they would like to discuss so that they can learn how to handle any situation that comes their way. As your child's teacher, I will always have open communication with you and my students and do my best to help every child succeed while learning to love and appreciate science.
